Empty Pockets

By on Saturday 19th May, 2012

Intro:
I lost my money and I don’t know what to do
But now I’ve lost my honey I guess I’m fucking screwed

Verse 1:
I came to town on a boat with my sweetheart
Built a castle with a moat and a tower
I played the king wore lots of bling ate lots of cream tarts
Sculpted children and I dressed them up with flowers

Then one day I let the drawbridge down
And the tax man came to paint a frown
Said I’s late on my morgage payday
Said gonna have to take it all away
I told him…

Chorus:
I came here with empty pockets
Played your city games
So if I leave here with empty pockets
Nothing’s lost and nothing’s gained

I came here with empty pockets
I sweat the blood, I paid the cost
So if I leave here with empty pockets
Well nothing’s gained but nothing’s lost!

Verse 2:
So we eloped with right good hope out the country
Found a hamlet on a mountain side in France
And though we didnt speak their tongue and had no money
Found a farmer who would give us a chance

Worked all day neath the swelterin’ sun
We were fed until the harvest was done
When we headed to the boozer for a beer
They shut the door and said “you’re not from round here!”
We told them…

Chorus:
We came here with empty pockets
Played your country games
So if we leave here with empty pockets
Nothing’s lost and nothing’s gained

We came here with empty pockets
We sweat the blood, we paid the cost
So if we leave here with empty pockets
Well nothing’s gained but nothing’s lost!

Verse 3:
We hit the road, and the van became our shelter
And what dya know twas my girl the next to go
She said she could not bear the stormy weather
She said I had to learn to reep and sow

I said you cannot take the children from their father
There’s no need to be a fair-weather lover
She said I’m honest boy, I’d never want to fool you
But I want comfort and this simply won’t do
I told her…

Chorus:
I met you with empty pockets
Played your lover’s games
So if I leave you with empty pockets
Nothing’s lost and nothing’s gained

I met you with empty pockets
I sweat the blood, I paid the cost
So if I leave you with empty pockets
Well nothing’s gained but nothing’s lost!

Breakdown:
I lost my money and I don’t know what to do
But now I’ve lost my honey I guess I’m fucking screwed

Verse 4:
In the end I’s in a bend in the road
Lost my family, lost my house and lost my land
All friends remember is the money that I owe
And all I’m left to work with is my hands

So i went into the trees and carved a nest
Which the bitterest winter put to test
I eat from bins and drink springwater alone
Living without money is my home
I tell yer…

Chorus:
I was born with no pockets
Don’t need to play no games
So if I learn to live with empty pockets
Theres nought to lose and everything to gain

I was born with no pockets
I sweat the blood, I paid the cost
So if I die with empty pockets
Nothing’s gained but nothing’s lost!
