Smash, Grab n Run

By on Sunday 16th February, 2014

Hear the recording with Siobhan Knox on Soundcloud.

That summer was the summer of fire and cheap ebay TVs
The summer of fear and anger against police brutality
The summer of misspent rage and fragmented communities
The summer of misunderstanding and dismissing the youth so please

When you talk about the riots don’t talk in black and white
I’m sorry shops, homes, cars were burnt but that don’t make it right
To write off a whole generation or say it’s wrong to fight
When debt’s so high and welfare low I see no end in sight

Smash, grab and run! (Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!)
We’ve seen it all before
Smash, grab and run! (Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!)
And I’m sure we’ll see much more
You told all the things we should desire on the TV
So when we can’t afford we’ll take what we think we need

When education costs too much and jobs become so shite
I’m better off on the dole, watching telly through the night
Well who speaks of the violence of the advertising spies
The 21st century slavery of the mortgage feudal ties

And who’ll forget the murder of Mark Duggan golden son
Or how our lives are the mercy of police thugs guns
They’ve smashed resistance, grabbed our cash and run to the bahamas
So let’s break into their mansions while they’re still in their pyjamas

Smash, grab and run! (Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!)
They’ve always done the same
Smash, grab and run! (Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!)
So let’s beat them at their game
The old, fat, rich, white, male MP will tell you that it’s wrong
But if it comes to us or them I say
Smash, grab and run! (Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi!)
